The Targaryen name remains influential in Westeros, despite the family's current struggles. In the premiere of House of the Dragon's second season, titled "A Son for a Son," old oaths prove resilient amid turmoil.

HBO has launched a campaign hyping the upcoming war between Team Green and Team Black, promising intense action and political intrigue. As we return to King's Landing and Dragonstone, expect new characters to play pivotal roles in the battle for the Iron Throne.

In the North, Cregan Stark discusses the Night's Watch's duty to the realm with Prince Jacaerys. Despite having sworn allegiance to King Viserys, Cregan is torn between his duty to the North and the looming threat of winter. Jacaerys learns that the wall is not just for defense against invaders but also to protect against an unknown threat.

At Dragonstone, Daemon seeks revenge for the death of his son, Lucerys, but Rhaena advises caution. Queen Rhaenyra is consumed by grief and anger. Corlys, now using a cane, meets with Alyn Hull, the man who rescued him at sea.

In King's Landing, Prince Aegon prepares for his role as king, while his sister-wife Helaena expresses fear of rats. The council discusses the need to break Rhaenyra's blockade, despite Aegon's willingness to use Vhagar to intimidate their enemies. Larys Strong, the manipulative Master of Whispers, undermines Otto Hightower's influence over Alicent.

Rhaenyra discovers Lucerys' remains on a beach and mourns his loss. In King's Landing, Aegon faces petitions from his subjects, highlighting the challenges of ruling during wartime. Larys Strong sows doubt in Aegon's mind about Otto, while Alicent confronts her father over his interference.

At Dragonstone, Mysaria, the White Worm, is captured as a spy. Daemon confronts her and Ser Erryk about their allegiances. Rhaenyra gathers her council and vows to take revenge on Aemond Targaryen. Daemon offers Mysaria her freedom for information, which she eventually accepts.

Jacaerys brings news of support from Lord Cregan, bringing 2,000 men to their cause. Rhaenyra and her family mourn Lucerys and light a pyre in his honor.

In King's Landing, Daemon arrives in disguise and hires a hitman to assassinate Aemond. The assassins, known as Blood and Cheese, enter the castle and cut off the head of Aegon's son, fulfilling the promise of "a son for a son" but leaving Helaena traumatized.
