Phillies set to activate Trea Turner before Monday's game against Padres

Phillies activate shortstop Trea Turner Monday after six-week hamstring injury, despite no rehab games.

Phillies shortstop Trea Turner will return Monday against San Diego after recovering from a hamstring strain suffered on May 3. Manager Rob Thomson confirmed the activation on Sunday.

Turner, 30, hasn't played since the injury, which was initially expected to sideline him for at least six weeks. He will return without a rehab assignment, which is unusual for players with such a long absence.

Before the injury, Turner was batting .343 with two home runs and 10 steals in 33 games. His contributions were valued at 1.6 Wins Above Replacement by Baseball Reference.

During Turner's absence, utility player Edmundo Sosa has performed well, batting .280 with five homers and two steals.

Since Turner last played, the Phillies have gone 25-12, giving them the best record in the National League and an eight-game lead in their division.

A roster move will be necessary to activate Turner.
