Celtics, Panthers Aiming for Sweeps in NBA and Stanley Cup Finals

Celtics and Panthers are on the verge of making history if they both sweep Game 4s of their respective championship Finals.

The Boston Celtics and Florida Panthers have both taken commanding 3-0 leads in the NBA and Stanley Cup finals, respectively. A victory for both teams in Game 4 would mark the first time since 1995 that both championship series end in a sweep.

In 1995, the Houston Rockets swept the Orlando Magic in the NBA Finals, while the New Jersey Devils swept the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final. The Rockets' victory was not as dominant as the sweep suggests, as Orlando lost Game 1 in overtime and kept the series competitive. Hakeem Olajuwon was named NBA Finals MVP.

The 1995 Stanley Cup Final was more one-sided, with the Devils winning the final three games by at least two goals after taking Game 1 by a 2-1 score. Claude Lemieux won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP with 13 goals and 3 assists.

If the Panthers complete a sweep of the Oilers, it will be the NHL's first since the Red Wings' sweep of the Capitals in 1998. In the NBA, a Celtics sweep would be their first since the Warriors swept the Cavaliers in 2018.
